On the Importance of Filler

Or, why I spent twenty minutes trying to decide if Arthur and Eames should take a bus or a taxi.

So I've got five thousand words of chapter five of Hero down and it looks like the rest will be smooth sailing. At any rate, I'm taking a break from that to write this (which is funny, because me writing Hero was just me taking a break from betaing, which in turn was really just me taking a break from studying for my psychology of learning exam tomorrow. It's like the Inception of procrastination. Distraction, if you will -- and I think you will. I have to go deeper!) and "this" is me musing on writing. Which happens, sometimes, when I'm writing. But usually in between writing, really.

(I like the implication that life is divided into "writing" and "time spent in between writing," I think I'll keep it.)

So, if you asked me -- which you didn't, but I'm going to give my opinions anyway because that's how I roll -- there are two main types of scene in every story. There's the Action Scene and the Filler.

Now, the Action Scene is the meat of the story, the plot, the stuff people remember. It's the fight scenes and the sex scenes and the explosions and the car chases. I call it the Action Scene but it really doesn't have to be that action-packed at all -- it can be the dramatic revelation or tense conversation, the declaration of love or discovery of identity, the rain-soaked heart-break or the dawn over a new salvation. The Action Scene is just the scene where important stuff happens. The rest of it is Filler.

Truly, this post is just to A) Prove I've not died and B) Attempt to use my blog like an actual blog.

[Inception fic] Hero Today [4b/7]

Title: Hero Today

Author: saintdogstreet

Fandom: Inception

Word Count: ~6600

Rating: R

Warnings: Profanity, violence, possibly some sensitive themes and sexual situations touched on later. Arthur/Eames; Cobb/Mal. Unbetaed.

Summary: For the [info]help_pakistan  auction. Arthur is a barista by day and the masked superhero Vindicate by night. Life would be good, if he wasn't hopelessly in love with the businessman who visits his coffee shop every morning. Oh, and if somebody wasn't trying to kill him.

A/N: For [info]zeto.
A/N 2: This chapter is largely an info-dump. I think I buggered my pacing at some point and it hasn't returned any of my calls, so bear with me.

A/N 2: In other news -- I'm back, baby. I am fucking back.

A/N: This chapter did not go anywhere it was supposed to, but the characters insisted on stopping to moodily undress each other and get lost in flashbacks. What can you do?

Sorry for the delay, loves.
